I do want to maintain the "musicality" I hear in the Thorens with the SME 3009R, but I have not listened to enough turntable/tonearm combinations to know whether I might be satisfied with something else, such as a direct drive. While I do tend toward the sound character of a sorted idler drive when combined with the right tonearm/cartridge combination, I'm not dogmatic about that particular route. Thus, I realize it is prudent to consider both the turntable and tonearm synergy, as well as the type of cartridges I would like to use - before I make a purchase. I am presently considering going to another turntable. It's nice enough, a first-year production, but I do recognize its limitations - ferrous platter with MC carts, etc. Click to expand. My current turntable is a Thorens TD124 (1).
